PIP For Motorcycles: Do I Need It?

In 2020, at least 31% of deaths involving a vehicle included motorcycle accidents. Riding a motorcycle can be cool, exciting, and dangerous. Though road accidents can happen anytime and to anyone, it is better to prevent them from happening or at least reduce possible outcomes. "Prevention is better than cure," as they usually say.

Getting Personal Injury Protection (PIP) could help you in many ways, especially when you're a rider. Throughout the past few years, the number of deaths caused by motorcycle accidents increased, and it will continue if most riders do not have any prevention. With PIP, medical bill expenses, essential services, and funeral fees could be covered if caused by motorcycle or car accidents.

The answer is yes. You need Personal Injury Protection (PIP) if you like to ride a motorcycle. Though it is not a must in some states, it is highly recommended to have you covered by this type of policy.
What Is Covered By PIP?
PIP is no-fault insurance which means that the insured rider will be covered if the rider is involved in a road accident, no matter who caused it. These are the list of what PIP coverage would cover:
  • Medical Expenses
  • Physical Therapy
  • Health stays
  • Lost wages
  • Funeral Costs

What Is Not Covered By PIP?
Whether the state you currently live in requires you to get PIP coverage or not, or whether it is a no-fault state, you should be aware of your coverage's delimitations. PIP does not cover the following expenses:
  • Damage to someone's property
  • Car theft
  • Medical bills and prescriptions from the other driver involved in the accident
  • Injuries in a car accident while committing a crime or being paid to drive.

Conclusion
The number of road accidents increases rapidly every year. Most states require and recommend getting a Personal Injury Protection (PIP) if you own a motorcycle or a vehicle. PIP should cover your expenses if you’re involved in an accident.
